Our new Bassinet

Well we got the bassinet we wanted!  So far, it seems to be more effective than the crib, which is good.  Edward slept in it this afternoon for just over an hour.  He's laying there now as well, and looks like he's sleeping.  He likes to fake us out though, so we don't know for sure. :)

One advantage of a rocking bassinet is that when he starts to squirm, it rocks a little, which helps to settle him back down.  Nice added benefit. :)

For 15 dollars, I'm pretty proud of this CraigsList purchase. :)  It needed a good wash, but once it had that, we were good to go.

And here's Edward asleep inside his new bed.

We have a plan!

So we are purchasing a second hand bassinet.  We're hoping that Edward will sleep in it better than he sleeps in the crib.  Kasey's mom suggested it as something that isn't so big and open, and it sounds like a great idea to me.  Thankfully we live in a city big enough to be able to have options on things like that second hand.  Hooray for CraigsList!!

He is, thankfully, getting a better handle on days and nights.  More awake time during the morning and afternoon, and more work at sleeping during the night.  I actually got 5 consecutive hours of sleep last night!  (Of course, that's due to Kasey taking a nighttime feeding, so he is going about 2.5 hours between feedings, but I'll take my 5 hours however I can get them.)  Go Kasey!!!

Pictures of Edward awake!

Updated pictures of our little one.  He's having more and more awake time now, which is fun!  He's also managed to outgrow his first outfit . . . ironically the one in the picture from his first day home.  At least he got to wear it before he outgrew it.

And we have a belly button

Edward lost his belly button on Christmas day . . . well, Christmas night.  We went for his change into pajamas (so around 8 pm), and found we had a belly button, and a missing cord stump.  It was hanging out inside the onesie that he was wearing.

Kasey is very relieved it's fallen off.  It made him really nervous and made it hard for his big hands to put on those little diapers.  I'm happy because his diapers seem to leak less now that we don't have to avoid the belly button stump.  Edward is happy because . . . well, because he's clean, dry and fed of course. :)

Christmas Day

Edward's first Christmas day was an eventful one, for everyone but him.  We laughed at how silly it felt to buy presents for someone who was 15 days old.  We did get some great pictures though.  Unfortunately the really cute "Christmas Outfit" was only on him for about 10 minutes before he got it wet enough we had to change it.  Ah well, best laid plans, right? :)

The really cute outfit we only wore for a few minutes. :)

Edward's gift that was as big as him.  Then again, the ears add a lot of size to this sweet elephant, don't you think?

Kasey's sister took this picture of us during the family get together.  I think it turned out pretty well actually. :)

Holding a TINY baby

Here are some fun pictures of Edward being held by some of the younger members of the family.  They are just such fun pictures I had to share. :)

Andrew and Edward both have their eyes closed in this one, which is just so much fun.

Emalee is doing a pretty good job, but she was much happier holding Edward once we put the pillow under her arms.  Apparently he's heavy! :)

Danielle couldn't get over how tiny his hands and feet were!  It was fun to hear her comment on it again and again.

Sleeping Challenges

So our newest addition has decided he doesn't like to sleep flat.  He will sleep on his side, and he'll sleep in the "boppy" pillow I made, but try and lay him on his back to sleep in his crib and he gets all annoyed.  Between that and having his days and nights mixed up (he likes to be awake from 1-3 in the morning), it makes nighttime interesting.  :)

Other than that, he's doing wonderfully.  He's eating well, having plenty of wet and dirty diapers, and moving around like a champ!  He has amazing neck strength, and we have to keep an eye on how much he moves his head around.  He loves to be held, and curls up on our chests so he looks like a little peanut.  Such a cutie!!

This is Edward's preferred sleeping position.

Protective Big Brother

One of the things we were most worried about was how Andrew and Edward would handle one another.  Mostly this was due to Andrew's autism and the fact that he absolutely hates crying.  Since one of the primary things a baby does is cry, we were worried.  They, however, seem to be doing pretty well together.

Andrew comments when Edward cries, but he doesn't seem to be too worried about it.  We did, however, have a few strange moments.  Andrew kept taking Edward's hands and moving them away from his face.  He seemed extremely persistent about this.  We told him Edward was ok, but it didn't make him happy.

One of us finally asked what was wrong, and Andrew told us "Don't bite your fingers!"  Apparently he was just being protective and didn't want Edward to take a bite out of his fingers.  :)

Here's a picture of Andrew making sure Edward doesn't bit his fingers. :)

We're Home!

Today Edward and I came home from the hospital.  He has some jaundice, so we have to go to the doctor on Monday and have that checked out, but otherwise we both have a clean bill of health.

He's had some issues in the hospital with his days and nights, so we're a little worried about how he will sleep, and we have some serious concerns about how Edward and Andrew will get along with each other, but all of it will get worked out.

Picture of our little one his first day home.  He really doesn't like sleeping in his crib, but if he's really worn out, we can sometimes pull it off successfully. :)

Intro

This blog may or may not appeal to a large audience, but that's ok because I'm not writing it for a large one.  I've created this blog because we had a baby! Unfortunately, much of our family lives out of town or out of state, so they can't be here for all the milestones that they would like.  Add to that the fact that I love computers, and a blog seemed like a great way to keep our family and close friends updated on what's happening with Edward, as well as the rest of our family.  So if you want to know more about us, this may be a blog you'll be interested in.

There will be milestones and pictures, so I hope you enjoy!!
